Welcome to Pitography

I’m Katie

Pitography is my brain child. My Dad got me my first professional camera in 2012 and, having always had an eye for detail and a love for anything that allowed me to explore my creative side, I was instantly addicted!

While we do offer a range of services, our main focus at Pitography is Property Photography.

I understand how vital it is to have images that make your property stand out in a sea of listings. Something seemingly innocuous, like an off-center faucet handle or a light reflecting on the TV, might not stand out to most people but you can bet that I will catch it! In the big picture, (no pun) these minuscule adjustments will come together to form a much cleaner, higher-quality aesthetic.

What’s in a name?

Pi? You must like math. Nope. In fact, I was very much a “Why can’t I just use a calculator” kind of student. No, in this case, “Pi” means much more than 3.14

Enter Tim, my stepfather.

Tim had an unwavering passion for Chinese take-out and one night, after eating enough of it to be legally considered half human/half MSG, I cracked open my tasteless, beige folded-cookie to retrieve the fortune inside.

“Life is about making some things happen, not waiting for something to happen.”

Yup, that sounds like what you would expect from a cookie. Tim always got extra cookies so this wasn’t even the only one I opened. There was something about it though. I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away. I ended up taping that fortune to the side of the camera that I mentioned earlier. However, object permanence eventually set in and I quickly forgot it was even there.

Fast-forward a few years: I’m venting to Tim about all of my early 20’s what-am-I-doing-with-my-life angst when he says “Katie, it’s just like that fortune that you taped to your camera…”

My what?….oh.

I never thought about him seeing that. It was such an inconsequential thing that I was surprised he even noticed it, let alone that he kept it tucked away in his brain for me all of those years.

That conversation stayed with me and I spent years wondering why that was always so fresh in my mind when I am also the same person that can’t remember if I ate lunch today.

How does that tie into Pi?

Well, that’s the shortest part of the story.

Tim Tasker was the quintessential “cool nerd” and at some point in his life, he noticed that his initials looked a lot like the symbol for Pi. He commandeered that symbol and from there forward he used it to sign his name. It was just one of those random things that everyone seemed to know about him.

His “signature thing” was his actual signature, I suppose.

Shortly before lung cancer took him from us in 2019, he said to me “You’re really about to go somewhere” and I’ll always remember that.

I know that he would be so proud of what has been built on the back of his encouragement and his ability to always believe in me enough for both of us.

Every single shot I take is a piece of his living legacy.
